Hi there! Remember I told you I was on a mission to learn the keyboard shortcuts for mac? Well, I made a little cheat sheet to keep near my desk...one for home and one for the office. Feel free to print one out for yourself too and come back next week to get yourself a new set of shortcuts. We're gonna do this together, and we're gonna be so quick working on our computers, our keyboards will be smoking!

Ok, so I've been a PC user all my life. Everywhere I've worked I've always used a PC, and I had a PC at home up until 3 years ago when I bought my Macbook Pro. Being that I work a full-time job, I wasn't using my Mac as much, because the last thing I wanted to do after staring at a monitor for 8 hours straight was to come home and stare at another. That's until recently when I started blogging more frequently and started working on The Custom Stationery Course. Now I'm eager to come home and work on the fun stuff!
The only thing that's driving me crazy is that I haven't learned any keyboard commands for the Mac. Because of it, I work a lot slower at home. As you all know, time is our most precious resource (especially family time) so I decided to do something about it. Now, because my almost 40 year-old brain doesn't retain as much information as it used to in its 20's, I decided to learn one shortcut at a time. Just memorize one, use it for a couple of days, and then learn a new one, and so on. That sounds easy, right? The youngsters out there might be laughing at me right now, but the seasoned professionals with kids and a home and a side project, and many other things to remember, will agree that when your brain is full it's best to feed it little by little in order for it to retain the information. So, if you're with me, here are three keyboard shortcuts for mac: File keyboard shortcuts for InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop New............Cmd + N Open..........Cmd + O Close.........Cmd + W Yes, I'm giving you three at once, because I've already learned the first two, so I'm two steps ahead of the game. So catch up and I'll see you here next week for more. Eventually, I'll make a pretty little cheat-sheet, but ain't nobody got time for that right now! We've got e-courses to complete and a family waiting to be fed! I am LOVING the retro cereal boxes by General Mills. I know they're totally marketing to my age group, and you know what? I don't mind one bit! I almost, almost, bought a box of Lucky Charms last week just because the retro design took me back to my grade school years at first glance. Good job, marketeers! You got my attention by bringing back cherished memories of the days when I had no cares in the world. My only worries were wondering what mom was going to make for dinner that night. Those were the days...
Which box design do you like best? I was roaming the Target aisles with my daughter when I first spotted the retro cereal boxes, and being the observant person that she is, she immediately noticed my excitement as I held these two boxes in my hands. "Which one do you like best?" she asked. Without hesitation, I told her I preferred the retro design. She disagreed and voted for the other. I do realize I am biased, but trust me, as a designer, there are definitely other factors influencing my preference.
So there you have it! Today's Monday Hues and graphic design tips were inspired by cereal boxes found and photographed by me, in the Target aisles. I'd also like to note that I picked today's inspiration source and color scheme in honor of St. Patricks Day, so enjoy your greens and golds and remember, inspiration is everywhere. Happy Monday! ~ Dio |
